Private Practice: Pediatric

Description

This position is a full time opportunity for clinical work including 1:1 therapy, evaluations, caregiver coaching and potentially small group preschool. The setting is an in person pediatric clinic where you would work with other speech language pathologists and occupational therapists. Our clients are primarily between the ages of 2.5 to 12. You will be treating and evaluating primarily: speech sound disorders, early receptive and expressive language delays/disorders, use of AAC (speech generating and low tech), autistic communicators, social pragmatic communication, sensory and motor based feeding difficulties and less frequent disorders as they come up. We use a neuro-affirming philosophy and place a high value on educating caregivers and collaborating with school SLPs for continuity of care. When you join our team you get input on your schedule, client types, and preferences. You are supported by our in-house administrative assistant and SLP owner. A core value of our clinic is promoting REAL work-life balance. We treat our employees like the educated adults that they are. Our vibe is professional but friendly and supportive.

Pay per visit

Contract

$55–$80/hr

Informed Pay

$35–$52/hr

Median Pay and Range

  • Our clinicians work 32–40 hours a week paid and unpaid (approx. 36 paid hours a week)
  • Current SLPs range is 4–6 billable hours per day: $240–$360/day

Full Pay Rate for All Hours Worked?

No:

  • Late cancels and no shows that can NOT be replaced by other clients are paid at $5 a visit or $50 a month, whichever comes first.
  • Documentation time is paid at regular rate (.5 hours a day, any time at least 5 clients are seen) so if only 4 clients show up the clinician would not get paid doc time that day.
  • Evaluations are paid at the hourly rate up to 2 hours. So if the clinician's pay is $60/ hour and the evaluation takes 30 minutes to do, it is still paid at their hourly rate X 2 ($60 x 2 = $120).

Client Availability and Impact on Pay

  • Full pay is based on clients attending.
  • The SLP is offered the owner's clients if their own client cancels or is offered a $5 late cancel/no show payment up to $50 a month. They do not HAVE to take the owner's client but aren't eligible for no show payment if there is a client that can be seen.
  • There should be no or minimal delay in building a caseload upon hire if the SLP's insurance credentialing can be completed before the start date (ex: offer for hire accepted with a start date in 4 weeks). If the SLP has previously been credentialed with Nevada Medicaid, the process can be accomplished in approx. 2 weeks prior to hire. New SLPs will train and be paid on private pay clients and the Owner's caseload until they are full.

Pay Rate Determiners

  • CF candidates would start at $55 hour ($27.50 per billable visit). This would also be the rate for an SLP with no pediatric experience.
  • SLP-CCC starting with < 3 years pediatric experience start at $60 hour ($30 per billable visit) pay raises move up yearly generally in no less than $2/hour increments. So an SLP starting with 3 years pediatric experience would start at $62 hour ($31 per billable visit) and so on.
  • On the higher end SLP rates cap at $80 an hour ($40 per billable visit) due to administrative costs, cash rates and reimbursement rates.

Stipends (taxed)

Health insurance/wellness stipend of $200 a month

Bilingual or specialty skill/certification pay differential in the form of a monthly bonus

Reimbursements (untaxed)

Consumable feeding therapy items—up to $100 a month for clinic
State license renewal reimbursement $100
Provided assessment and treatment materials and laptop
Continuing education up to $100 per year
CPR certification up to $50

Quality

Schedule

  • Expect to work 32–40 hours per week, paid and unpaid (approx. 36 paid hours a week).
  • Full-time employees are expected to be available for scheduling a minimum of 3.5 days per week.
  • Currently, the clinic is open for treatment Tuesdays–Fridays weekly; but with this new position we are expanding our days to Monday through Friday. Therapists can elect to work more than 3.5 days a week if clients and administrative staff are available.
  • This SLP's days will be Monday through Thursday. Start times are flexible but some after school hours (3-5) are required to serve our school age clients. No clients are seen after 5 pm. The earliest client currently on our caseload starts at 8:30 am and the latest is out by 5 pm.

Additional Work Hours

None

PTO

  • We do not make distinctions between sick days, mental health days, family bereavement days or vacations. PTO benefits will be accrued monthly and do not roll over after 12 months (for a max number of 12 PTO days at any given time). PTO days must be taken in whole day increments unless other arrangements have been made.
  • Time-off requests must be submitted to a supervisor with at least one week’s notice or sooner whenever possible.

Holidays

Yes if it falls on their scheduled day except for:
• The week of Christmas
• New Years Day
• Memorial Day
• Labor Day
• Thanksgiving Day and the Friday after Thanksgiving

These are unpaid closures and staff is encouraged to use PTO

Productivity Requirements

No, but if an employee is going to be out due to a planned absence (e.g. vacation) we ask staff to "make an effort" (not mandatory) to offer some make-up sessions to ensure continuity of care for clients. The administrative assistant who supports them will ask them if they have any days/ times they may be able to fit in a make up session before or after they are out.

Caseload Cap

  • Not officially, but we encourage employees to explore their individual stamina levels and consider the most beneficial times to take breaks between clients. Pediatric clients are exhausting and knowing when to take a break makes for happier clinicians and better therapy.
  • I would discourage any clinician from scheduling over 14 clients a day.

Dedicated Space

Yes: shared office with others

Parental Leave Policy

Although our clinic size in Nevada does not require us to offer paid time off for parental leave, we do have the following policies in place:
We follow the Nevada Pregnant Workers Fairness Act that provides reasonable accommodations to employees or applicants based on pregnancy, childbirth or related medical conditions (ex: private area for expressing/storing breast milk).
We follow FMLA guidelines for taking up to 12 weeks off (unpaid) in one year for pregnancy/parental leave.
We offer 55 hours of paid time off per parental leave at the employees actual hourly rate OR $60/hour whichever is lowest. To be eligible for paid time off the employee must have been employed for at least 7.5 months (30 weeks).
We encourage employees to use their accrued PTO.

They must be able to write their documentation (evaluation reports, SOAP notes, progress notes etc.) in such a way as to be compliant with insurance company requirements and be understandable to a caregiver or covering therapist. Professional ethical standards (ex: HIPAA, mandated reporter status, continuing education requirements, licensing requirements etc.) must be followed to the letter. Additionally the ideal candidate will have a friendly, respectful, demeanor when providing information to families and caregivers and when interacting with coworkers. Candidates must have the patience and energy to work with young children and their families.  It is also important for this hire to be able to communicate with the owner and coworkers when they do not understand something or want additional training. Asking for support is encouraged.

Preferred (but not required) skills and competencies include: experience with SG-AAC and feeding therapy (sensory and oral structures/functions). We are actively recruiting a bilingual therapist (English/Spanish).
