Schedule
SLPs are expected to maintain a consistent therapy schedule whenever possible Monday through Friday during school hours (7:45 am to 3pm). Indirect work such as documentation, planning, case management, etc. is built-in to the schedule and is included in the daily hourly work expectation (5–7 hours/day) but can be done at flexible times if desired.
Additional Work Hours
All indirect work associated with a school-based SLP position (IEP management, evaluations, meetings, etc.) is included in the 5–7 hour work day. There may be an occasional after-school IEP meeting (e.g. 3pm–4pm) but this would not exceed the 5–7 hour range per day and would therefore be paid. SLPs are not required to participate in any extracurricular school activities or other duties outside of SLP-work (e.g. bus duty, lunch duty, after school activities, etc.).
PTO
PTO is accrued after the SLP has completed their first 30 days of employment. SLPs are expected to contact their Lead SLP as soon as they are aware they will need to take time off. Time off is then logged and approved in our payroll system, Paycom. When possible, SLPs are encouraged to use their flexible paid days off when students are not available to avoid disruption of the schedule and missed sessions (e.g. testing days, field trips, etc.).
Holidays
No, all holidays are paid days off. SLPs are also allotted an additional paid holiday to use on the day of their choosing called Cultural Awareness Holiday.
Productivity Requirements
SLPs are expected to bill their school 5 to 7 hours per school day but there are no formal productivity requirements. Billing helps Project Play better predict the workload needed for each school contract and if more SLP support is needed at the school. Billable activities include all aspects of an SLPs work including but not limited to direct treatment, evaluations, consultations, meetings, case management, planning, daily documentation, progress reports, etc.
Caseload Cap
There is no formal caseload cap in the state of TN but a typical full time Project Play SLP has a caseload of about 50–60 students. Should the workload exceed the 5–7 hours per school day, we will work to hire a support SLP for the school.
Dedicated Space
Yes: shared office with others
Parental Leave Policy
Parental leave is paid through optional enrollment in short term disability. The SLP is eligible for up to 16 weeks of leave through FMLA.
Does the Contract Include a Non-compete or Non-solicitation?
No.
Clinical Fellowship
Accepts CFs? Yes
% of SLPs in company who are CFs: 5% of whole company (including admin, clinic, and all other disciplines) and about 16% of just our school-based SLP team
CF supervision provided: Yes
Training program: Our Clinical Fellowship Program is designed to support SLPs entering the field through tailored and compassionate supervision that encourages growth and confidence. Clinical Fellows have access to a multi-tiered system of supports starting with their mentor, followed by our CF Program Manager, two Lead SLPs, and the Director of Related services (also an SLP). Our Clinical Fellowship Program Manager serves as a "mentor to the mentors" and helps provide general guidance to the CF team such as navigating licensure, ensuring they are on track with hours, and navigating complex situations. As part of our CF program, we have monthly CF-specific roundtables where CFs engage in topics specific to being a CF and a SLP new to the field such as material roundups. Our CF mentors are highly experienced and passionate SLPs who desire support new SLPs in the field.
Mentors are often assigned to a different school location but they will provide frequent in-person support and observations. CFs will have (minimally) weekly meetings with their mentor and often daily communication through phone, text, email, chat, etc. As CFs progress through the CF segments, more independence is expected with full independence expected by the end of segment 3 according to ASHA's Clinical Fellowship Skills Inventory.
