Description

Come join our team! We are a school district located in North Orange County. We have an elementary and middle school but the open position is for an elementary school. The open site is TBD since we may have internal movement but will be at an elementary school. You will know what your placement is before you sign your contract if you are offered the job. What sets us apart is how we support our SLPs. There are two lead SLPs that help to advocate for the group and work directly with our director. All SLPs have SLPA help. We are neurodiversity affirming group and share ideas with each other regularly.

Schedule

Fullerton School District: Location TBD, possibly Commonwealth Elementary at 2200 E Commonwealth Ave, Fullerton, CA 92831

 

Monday–Friday, 37.5 hours weekly with 2 months during summer unpaid. School breaks/holidays are paid (Thanksgiving, winter and spring breaks). Each elementary school has their own schedule with start and end times based on the bell schedule. District employees are required to be on campus during work hours. We do have Wednesdays every month that are dedicated to "teacher planning". SLPs have flexibility to make their own schedules for the week. SLPs are able to put dedicated time for testing/documentation/paperwork during school hours so that they do not take work home.

 

Additional Work Hours

Each school has their own IEP schedules. Some schedule during the days some schedule before and after school. There are meetings that school staff are required to attend such as staff meetings, principal meetings etc. that are done monthly. They do not go past one hour of the end of the school day.

PTO

All full-time certificated employees are entitled to ten (10) days of leave of absence each year for illness, injury, maternity disability, or quarantine. A certificated employee working less than full-time shall be entitled to sick leave at the same ratio that the certificated employee’s bears to full-time. All certificated employees hired after the start of the school year shall have sick leave benefits prorated for the balance of the school year. The District shall provide each certificated employee with access to a password protected on-line account in order to check sick leave balances at any time.


Any unused sick leave shall be accumulated from year to year without limitation. After a certificated employee has used the total sick leave allowance, the certificated employee will receive fifty (50) percent of the salary for any continuing illness absence up to the statutory limit of one hundred (100) work days. Full deduction of salary will be made for days off due to illness which are more than the accumulated sick leave and after the statutory one hundred (100) work day limitation.

 

A certificated employee who will be absent should notify the principal or designee as soon as it is known that the certificated employee will be absent and not later than one and one-half (1 1⁄2) hours, if possible, before the certificated employee is to report for duty. Such notice shall be made by using the Substitute reporting system. Certificated employees becoming aware of the need for absence due to surgery, maternity, or predictable or prior scheduled cause, shall submit a statement to the administration as far in advance of the initial disability date as possible.

Caseload Cap

No. The lead SLPs help with staffing needs so that you can get help at any time during the school year. They work closely with the director on a workload model. Every SLP in our district has SLPA help. It is weighted with your workload.

Parental Leave Policy

Two (2) days of personal leave without loss of pay, or deduction from sick leave, will be granted to a certificated employee on parental leave either directly before or directly after the birth or adoption of their child. Notice shall be given in writing to the immediate administrator prior to taking the leave. Up to two (2) additional days of Personal Leave with Pay (certificated employee pays for substitute) as defined in section “J” of this Article may be granted for the purpose of extending leave. Total time could equal two days of parental leave and up to five days of Personal Leave with Pay (certificated employee pays substitute) a total of seven (7) days.

CF details: In the past we have offered extra support when CFs get overwhelmed with their workload (typically SLPA coverage). We like to individualize help so that it is the right amount of support that SLPs need. CFs are not left on their own to figure it out here! 

 

Training program: We have strong SLP mentors in the district that we match based on your personality and setting. We also have SPED TOSAs (teachers on special assignment) that offer additional help with IEPs and documentation. CFs are expected to complete all parts of their jobs and can ask for support as needed. CF supervisors are available to help for the entirety of the school year. A minimum of 8 hours is provided every month but most CFs talk to their supervisors daily or weekly. Our schools work on a team basis and SLPs have the support of their school psychologist and other related staff as well. There are 29 SLPs in the district and we all email each other regularly for help. We meet monthly for trainings/round table and SLPs are encouraged to ask for help.
