Description

- Provides therapeutic intervention for students with speech/language, processing, and social language disorders;
- Attends staff meetings and in-service training sessions. Provides training to paraprofessionals and classroom teachers on speech functions, communication devices, and student social interactions;
- Plans, develops, and implements therapeutic materials and activities for treatment such as symbols, communication systems, communication notebooks, and instructional and social skills activities, consistent with the student’s Individual Educational Plan (IEP);
- Reviews and completes documentation in compliance with State and federal rules and regulations, as well as with District policies and procedures;
- Provides for initial and periodic evaluations of the speech/language, processing, feeding, and social language disorders of students. Attends child study conferences.

Skills And Competencies

Knowledge of:
- therapeutic interventions and techniques in areas of speech/language, auditory processing, feedings, and social language disorders;
- appropriate evaluative tools and techniques used in conjunction with the various disorders, such as clinical evaluation of language fundamentals, tests of problem solving, and language sampling;
- professional code of ethics;
- group and personal dynamics;
- appropriate State and federal laws and regulations related to the speech/language area;
- augmentation and alternative communication systems and assistive technology;
- and familiarity with Google Suite;
- and familiarity with Boardmaker software application.


Skilled in:
- providing oral and written presentations;
- development and administration of therapeutic and instructional materials;
- developing the appropriate rapport with students, staff, and family members;
- problem-solving;
- effective time management and prioritization.

Current teaching license in Speech Language Pathology issued by the Professional Educator Licensing and Standards Board (PELSB)

Salary is based on Local 2209 Salary Schedule A: $59,571 - $96,833 (depending on experience and education).

Full Pay Rate for All Hours Worked?

Yes, it is paid in full and not based off of cancellations, treatments or evaluations. SLPs get a third of their workload time for collaborating with educational staff, providing skilled education, and for billing.

Stipends (taxed)

If you have a PELSB license, you are eligible for a one time $3,000 signing and retention bonus.
If you have your ASHA CCC's you get an annual ASHA stipend for $1,000.

Reimbursements (untaxed)

We get $250 a year towards Continuing Education. The district has a budget for SLP materials for each school year. Mileage reimbursement for SLPs that travel between sites.

Additional Work Hours

287 includes family event nights or due process evenings that staff can attend. Staff need to attend a total of 8 hours of these activities during the school year.

PTO

Accrued PTO, given at the start date:
- 72 hours of sick leave
- 24 hours of personal leave that has to be approved by the supervisor
        - The district does not allow personal days around holiday or breaks
- Leave is prorated if your start date is after the start of the school year

Holidays

Not expected to work on federal holidays that align with the 287 school calendar.

We require billing completed and finalized each month, and caseload/workload sheets updated monthly.

Caseload Cap

45 caseload cap but if your workload is above, you are paid the overages.

287 does not offer paid parental leave. Individuals can use PTO and ask their coworkers to donate PTO.

CF supervision provided: Yes
CF details: We have several SLPs that would be able to be a CF supervisor.
Training program: We expect the CF to be independent at seeing their students 3 weeks into the school year. They have two weeks of training through the district without students, a week with their fellow SLPs offsite and onsite, then two weeks of prep to meet the students, plan the schedule, and work with their CF supervisor on workload management and treatment plans. If the CF supervisor is not on site, they will meet once a week to check in along with having a SLP mentor.
