Description

This position requires you to work with individuals on the autism spectrum between the ages of 3–22 years old. If you are a speech–language pathologist (SLP) looking for a rewarding opportunity, the QSAC School in the Bronx is searching for a dedicated NYS Certified Teacher of the Speech and Hearing Handicapped (TSHH) or Teacher of Students with Speech Language Disabilities (TSSLD) with NYS Certification of Clinical Competency (CCC) to provide speech and language therapy to assess and treat speech, language, and social communication disorders in children with autism spectrum disorder. We provide extensive support, training and opportunities for growth both professionally and within the agency.

Pay Rate Determiners

The pay will always be within range. $65,000–$75,000 is for SLP TSHH/TSSLD & CFY, $76,000–$90,000 is for SLP TSHH/TSSLD & CCC.

The other determiner is your experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities. It is a plus if you have a pediatric background or previous knowledge of ABA.

School based employees get 12 holidays and 3 breaks (amounting to approximately 40 days off a year), the pay of which is accrued on a per payroll basis. School staff also accrues up to 12 sick days a year, of which can be used for personal use with supervisory approval and can be carried over into the following year.

You will not be expected to work on federal holidays. We follow the NYC DOE calendar. Holidays are paid.

Productivity Requirements

Direct Therapy: 80% of work hours

Indirect/Collaborative Services: 5% of work hours

Documentation/Admin: 15% of work hours

Qualifications

Skills And Competencies

  • Ensure that speech and language programs are developed and implemented in accordance with behavioral principles and the individual needs of each student's IEP
  • Conduct formal and informal assessments of student's speech, language, and communication skills
  • Write IEP goals, objectives and updates
  • Implement data collection, behavior management interventions and the principles of behavior analyses during individualized therapy sessions in accordance with the IEP
  • Maintain daily attendance of speech sessions and session notes
  • Participate in Parent/Teacher Clinics in order to promote generalization of speech and language skills learned in school. This may entail formal and informal contact with teachers and parents, as well as parent therapy observations, direct parent training, IEP and parent conferences, and home visits when requested
  • Participate in staff/team meetings and required staff training

Required Qualifications

State licenses: New York

CCCs required: Yes

Other required qualifications: 

  • NYS Certification as a Teacher of the Speech and Hearing Handicapped (TSHH) or Teacher of Students with Speech Language Disabilities (TSSLD) required
  • 3 letters of recommendation required upon hire
  • At least 6 months experience employing behavior analytic principles with children with ASD
  • Knowledge of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems, including Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) 
  • Knowledge of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) highly preferred
